Cross-play, I believe, is very complicated.
The problem seems to be with Sony not allowing cross platform gaming between xbox and ps4. To my knowledge Xbox would allow it easily.
Sorry, but at the moment playing fortnight between ps4 and xbox is not possible.

Epic games also say it is possible, and they have advised me as to the settings on the Fortnite game.
Also, I have asked this question on several help forums, and I'm told "yes, it's very easy to do, and I do it all the time!"
It may well be very easy for some, but I'm finding it very difficult, and to be told it is so easy, but not be told how to do it, is extremely frustrating.

I know for a fact that Fortnite can not be played cross-platform between PS4 and Xbox One at this time.
Playing PS4 and PC and also Xbox one and PC is another thing, and that's supported I believe by both parties.

You are correct in your previous response here. Cross play was not allowed in the past but has been introduced recently in September with the cross play beta. It was announced through PlayStation blog. The beta started in September however, there has not been any news I could find about this moving out of beta form.
First thing to note is that cross-platform matchmaking is only available to those who are in a party with people through Epic Friends. You'll need to group up with others via an Epic account; this is the ticket to connect with players outside the platform you play on. In order for console users to access that, you'll have to make sure your Epic account is linked to your console account (PSN, Xbox Live, or Switch Online) which can be done on Epic's official website.

Hello Invernowie,
To change the setting, go to the lobby inside Fortnite, hit settings way at the bottom will be a box to enable cross play. Also if this is a child account under age of 13 and under will not be able to change it as of yet. Microsoft is in the process of putting in an option for parent account to enable or disable crossplay on child accounts.

Sony has started a beta program that allows for some cross-platform capabilities. I'm not sure of the details but you can find those on the Playstation site on how to join the Beta.

I have had this issue for a number of weeks now and I've been flittering between MS and Epic - both of which appear to blaming each other but here is the update as of today:
"The essential reason why the accounts are unable to successfully participate in cross play is that all Xbox accounts with dates of birth that designate them as a child (13 and under in US region) are currently blocked from cross play. When we activated cross-play, differences between settings management for Xbox profiles and Epic Fortnite accounts would not allow us to give parents control specifically over multiplayer and communications options when gaming with players on other networks. Microsoft is committed to ensuring parents can control how and when their children interact with others while gaming on an Xbox, so we defaulted to the most restrictive option for child accounts until we could align our settings with Epic Games."
The situation for me is such that my son wants a Playstation for Xmas this year so he can play Fortnite with ALL of his friends and not just his XBox friends. Little did I know when I decided to set up a child account for my son by trying to do right by him - that I would be blocking his ability to do what he wants to do so much with my permission.
Even if you promote your child's account to an adult account and change their date of birth it is futile because:
"Unfortunately, even if we change the date of birth on his account. Our system will still going to use the date of birth that was use when the account has been created."
But there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel because I just received an email from MS following my latest contact with them
"Per our conversation today, I would like to let you know that I already coordinate this to our specialist and I would like to let you know that as a customer you are the first person who will be updated about the fix that we are having on Child Account accesing Cross Play. Please visit news.xbox.com or majornelson.com for further information about Fortnite Cross Play"

Cross play for fortnite is still in beta.
You will need to have a Epic account to be able to play accross platforms.
There is no direct cross play feature between Xbox and playstation at this moment.
